Browser bar
A browser bar is a small pane that appears in the frame of Internet Explorer. Some bars are
built-in by Microsoft (such as Search, History, etc) and some are 3-rd party (like netXtract).
Context
The context of a word is a range of text surrounding that word, from the current document displayed in IE.
By default, netXtract picks 5 words before and 5 words after the selected word. The context size can be
set through the netXtract "Preferences". See
customizing netXtract?
Context tab
One of the tabs in the netXtract browser bar. When you double-click a word in the Index tab,
the Context tab displays all contexts of that word in the document currently loaded by IE.
Dictionaries
A netXtract dictionary is a list of related words identified by a name.
See working with dictionaries.
IE
Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Index tab
One of the tabs in the netXtract browser bar, used to display the words extracted from the
document currently loaded by IE.
Indexed Words
A list of words in the document currently displayed by IE. After the document is downloaded from its
server to your browser, netXtract looks at the document and extracts the words from it.
Knowledge Base (or KBase)
A generic term used to identify a collection of data, usually categorized and searchable. netXtract
allows you to build a personal Knowledge Base on your local machine from any range of text from
a Web document displayed in your IE browser window.
See saving to the Knowledge Base.
Knowledge Base Entry
All contexts or text selections from Web documents that you have saved to KBase are stored
into a local file on your computer. Each saved piece is called a KBase entry.
Knowledge Base Manger
An application installed by netXtract that allows you to manage the personal Knowledge Base
you have built using netXtract.
See retrieving the saved KBase entries.
